A web-based application is any application that uses a web browser as a client.

A Web application (Web app) is an application program that is stored on a remote server and delivered over the Internet through a browser interface.

Within the mobile computing sector, Web apps are sometimes contrasted with native apps, which are applications that are developed specifically for a particular platform or device and installed on that device. However, the two are not mutually exclusive because many applications contain elements of both native and Web apps.

Benefits of a Web Application?

A web application relieves the developer of the responsibility of building a client for a specific type of computer or a specific operating system. They can be running Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Web applications commonly use a combination of server-side script (ASP, PHP, etc) and client-side script (HTML, Javascript, etc.) to develop the application. The client-side script deals with the presentation of the information while the server-side script deals with all the hard stuff like storing and retrieving the information.
